During Cross Comix on 12 & 13 September in Rotterdam, Wobby celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibition of all 41 issues from the past decade — a rare chance to view the complete archive and ten years of bold illustration. Wobby is also present at the Makers Market with publications and risoprints. Young creators can join Meet the Editor for feedback from artistic director Marjolein Schalk. And don’t miss the Drink & Draw session with illustrator Nastia Cistakova as live model!
During the Illustrada Festival, Wobby Club offers a free workshop programme on 6 and 7 September that uses illustration as a means of engaging in dialogue. The results of the workshops are printed on-site using the risograph printer, a fast and creative reproduction technique. In addition, an exhibition celebrating Wobby’s 10th anniversary is on display in the pop-up shop.
In Wobby #41 the theme ‘Get well soon’ plays a central role. The magazine is co-curated by Dutch artists G.C. Heemskerk and Kim David Bots. In this Wobby, thirteen artists offer their interpretations of what recovery means to them and how we can find healing and comfort, both individually and collectively. Read the interview with Marnix van Uum, Leomi Sadler and the co-curators.
We warmly invite you to the launch of the new issue of Wobby on 13 July at Huis van het Boek, The Hague. Wobby #41, themed ‘Get well soon’, is co-curated by Dutch artists G.C. Heemskerk and Kim David Bots. This issue explores the layered meaning behind the familiar phrase, often found on greeting cards, expressing both the hope of recovery and the reassurance that someone is thinking of you.
Wobby was originally founded in 2015 by Jeroen de Leijer, Marjolein Schalk, S.L. Trumpstein (Stephan de Weert), a group of artists rooted in the absurdist tradition in the Southern Netherlands. What began as a project to showcase their own work and that of other artists, has since grown into a global magazine, featuring a wide variety of creators from across the world.
Join artists Miriam Reeders & Eva Meijer on April 23 at our Wobby studio in Tilburg, for a session on comfort, care & connection. They’ll share insights from their art project "De Vereniging ter Bevordering van de Troost", (the Association for the Promotion of Comfort), followed by a talk & drawing exercises.
Article by Illustrator Masha Krasnova-Shabaeva. Taking inspiration from illustration and tattooing, more illustrators are combining the two in their work, enriching both fields. Over the years, tattoos have undergone a major transformation and not only just for people wanting art on their bodies—they’ve become a recognised form of visual art. Today, it’s common to see works by famous tattoo artists sold at auctions or featured in large coffee table books. So, why not try entering this fascinating and inspiring new field?
The sixth edition of the residency ‘To Riso or Not’ at Make Eindhoven, in the lead-up to Dutch Design Week, has finished a while back. Six young illustrators and artists spent two weeks working in the graphic workshop of Make, exploring techniques such as dry needle, silkscreen, and risoprint. To gain insights into the artists’ experiences, Wobby spoke with some of them a few weeks after the residency.
We’re excited to announce the arrival of six brand new art prints in our webshop, fresh from the pages of our latest issue, Wobby #40 - Critter Tales. Co-curated by Enter Press, this issue brings together a diverse group of artists who take us on a journey through imaginary worlds, microscopic creatures, fairy-tale landscapes, and more. The new art prints are by Samuel Bas, Violette Le Gendre, Antoine Marchalot, and Zhao Zilan.
