ABOUT WOBBY.CLUB

Mission
Wobby.club is the platform for autonomous illustration, visual art, and literature in the Netherlands. It was originally founded in 2015 by Jeroen de Leijer, Marjolein Schalk, S.L. Trumpstein (Stephan de Weert), a group of artists rooted in the absurdist tradition in the Southern Netherlands. Wobby.club organises the risoprinted quarterly Wobby, the two-week course To Riso or Not, the Wobby Workout, and many more projects.

Our policy plan in short
In the upcoming years, Wobby.club aims to further promote the potential of original and authentic illustration. Our main activities are:

  • Wobby magazine: a risoprinted quarterly showcasing up to 20 artists in each edition

  • Wobby Tv: a live-streamed club event

  • To Riso or Not: a work week for upcoming talents in cooperation with MAKE Eindhoven

  • Wobby Workout: a riso intensive for artists at our studio

  • Wobby Wonderland: an art and book fair

  • Open Call for Graduates: an open call for upcoming talents

  • Wobby Workshops

  • Participation projects for and with youth and minority groups

Wobby.club retrieves its income from the distribution of its magazine, art prints, and books, and is granted multi-annual support from Wobby’s hometown, the Municipality of Tilburg, and the Province of North-Brabant. We regularly collaborate with local and regional parties, such as De Pont museum, TextielMuseum, Kunstpodium T, Tilt, De Nachtzuster, Graphic Matters, MAKE Eindhoven, and TAC. Wobby.club is also part of Platform Werkplaatsen, the Flemish-Dutch network of workshops and labs for artists and designers.

Team
Wobby.club’s core club members are Marjolein Schalk (director), Niels Engel, Bobbi Oskam, Joan Bosveld, Amber Dijs, Lieke Kleverwal, Bart Smout, Andrew Cartwright, and Boris de Leijer.

Board
Our board is unpaid and meets regularly. It’s members are Henny Luijten, Nadine Roestenburg and Moon Fung Fong.

Remuneration policy
Wobby.club actively promotes fair pay. The team consists of freelancers that are rewarded on the basis of the Guideline Job and Salary Structure for Visual Art Platforms. Wobby applies the rates of Dutch author’s rights organisation Pictoright to all contributors of the magazine. In other cases, artists are paid in line with the Residency Grant of the Dutch Mondrian Fund and the national Guideline for Artist’s Fees.
